Wipro’s January 1 Work-From-Office Rule: Mandates 6 Hours in Office

- Employees’ 6-hour office shift, 3 days a week, will be strictly monitored by Wipro. - If not followed, it can directly affect the leaves (effective from January 1). - Total working hours remain unchanged at 9.5 hours (be it work from the office or home).

Wipro’s January 1 Work-From-Office Rule: Mandates 6 Hours in Office

Work-from-office has become quite a mandate since 2025. According to Archie, several large companies, including Amazon, AT&T, Walmart, JPMorgan Chase, Dell, Microsoft, and Google, have reinforced return-to-office policies with at least 3-day work-from-office schedules. Starting January 1, Wipro has tightened its work-from-office rules. The rules have been communicated to employees, along with a list of what will happen (if the set rules are not followed). Does this mean that Wipro is ending hybrid work? How will remote work for Wipro’s employees look hereafter? For all that, learn more.

Wipro’s New Work-From-Office Rule January 1

On days when employees report to the office, it's essential that they remain there for at least 6 hours. This rule applies to all 3 days of office work (hybrid). Earlier, employees were required to "show up" (and it would have been enough) with no set time limit. However, Wipro will now track entry and exit time using punch-in and punch-out data.

Does This Mean Wipro Will Reduce the Working Hours?

Actually, no! Wipro will continue with the regular 9.5-hour total work hours. The 6 hours in the office are just the minimum, and the remaining 3.5 hours should be completed at home (as per the comfort of the employees). At the same time, the assigned work will be completed too.

What Happens to Wipro Employees Who Don’t Follow the Rules?

Starting from January 1, Wipro has linked this new rule to employee attendance and leave tracking. If attendance is not marked as prompted or the employee doesn't meet the requirement, the company may deduct half a day of leave.

What Was the Earlier Wipro Hybrid Policy?

Back in October 2024, Wipro allowed three work-from-office days a week with extra work-from-home days. Each would get 30 extra remote work days per year:

  • 15 days if the employee was sick.
  • 15 days for caregiving (family member needs support).

But now:

In special cases, only 12 remote work days per year are allowed now. Hybrid work is still there, but not as flexible as it was before.

Final Thoughts…

Like other big tech giants, Wipro has made its work-from-office policy stricter. The company remains open to employees working in a hybrid model, with a mandate of 3 days and at least 6 hours in-office presence. Therefore, the company didn’t rule out hybrid work but would proceed with certain rules in place.
