As it is ready to go public, Anthropic PBC might invest $750 billion in more processing capacity in the next years. Using a draft IPO prospectus as a source, the media outlet stated that the AI firm lost $80.7 billion in the first half of 2026.

A year before, over the same time, the net loss was $13 billion. The bulk of the net loss—$72 billion—occurred in the first six months of this year. The accounting charges associated with fluctuations in the value of Anthropic's convertible notes and other instruments led to this enormous loss.

Anthropic Set for its Wall Street Debut with Extra Spending

In the next weeks, one of the top artificial intelligence developers, Anthropic, is scheduled to openly file papers for a debut on Wall Street. Therefore, the company is preparing for what might be the biggest initial public offering (IPO) in history. The offering will allow the company to acquire more capital, which it can then use to invest in data centres, AI skills, and semiconductors. For the six months ending June 30, the Claude-developing firm spent about $9 billion on computing capacity and infrastructure, up from $2.3 billion in the corresponding period of 2025.

After spending $7.3 billion on securing computer power in 2025, Anthropic invested more in the first half of 2026. The prospectus reveals Anthropic's complex network of computer power agreements. These agreements amount to approximately $450 billion over the next seven to ten years. Various media houses reported that most of these arrangements cannot be terminated. The contract agreements with Google Cloud (Alphabet Inc.), Amazon Web Services (Amazon.com Inc.), and Microsoft Corp. total $111 billion, $110 billion, and $31 billion, respectively, that the business intends to spend.

Anthropic’s Message to Investors

In the third quarter, the company informed investors that it had turned a profit when adjusted for certain factors. At the end of the third quarter, Anthropic's adjusted operating margin was more than 11%, the gross margin was 85%, and free cash flow was positive. As early as the week of November 9th, the firm will formally start marketing its first public offering. Therefore, the company is lining it up to start trading before the US Thanksgiving break.

Its premiere is anticipated to take place before the year ends. Based on recent media stories, Anthropic's prospectus warns of AI-related harms, such as models displaying "self-preserving" traits to escape being disabled and replies like "blackmail" to prevent humans from stopping them from functioning. Most of Anthropic's capacity is located in the United States, but the company may encounter political opposition if it decides to construct data centers there, as reported by various media outlets.
