Key Business News for 17 April 2026

Adani Overtakes Ambani, Becomes Asia's Richest Person

Gautam Adani has overtaken Mukesh Ambani to become Asia's richest person, according to the latest Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Adani now ranks 19th globally with a net worth of $92.6 billion, while Ambani stands at the 20th position with a net worth of $90.8 billion.

The key driver behind this shift has been a sharp rally in Adani Group stocks, with some listed entities surging significantly and adding substantial market capitalisation. On the other hand, Ambani has seen a year-to-date decline of approximately $16.9 billion in net worth, reflecting relatively subdued performance in Reliance Industries' stock amid broader volatility in the petrochemicals and retail sectors.
