Google DeepMind Names 4 Indian Startups for New AI Accelerator Programme

Google DeepMind has chosen four Indian firms - Climitra Carbon, Terrastack, Farmers for Forests and Varaha Climate - for its first-ever AI for the Planet accelerator. The program is supporting 16 organisations around the Asia-Pacific to use AI and advanced technologies to address climate issues.

The first Google DeepMind Accelerator: AI for the Planet programme has chosen four Indian startups, according to an announcement made by tech giant Google on September 14th. Climitra Carbon, Terrastack, Farmers for Forests, and Varaha Climate are the four companies that will be joining the group of sixteen organisations from the Asia Pacific region.

Sustainable agriculture, agroforestry, carbon reduction, and biodiversity are just a few of the issues that these domestic entrepreneurs are tackling with the help of artificial intelligence (AI), satellite intelligence, remote sensing, drones, and other similar technologies. To help them scale up their vital solutions for a sustainable future, they will have access to the latest Google AI stack, technical support, and expert mentorship for the next three months.

Operations of Four Selected Stratups

Terrastack is one of the chosen firms that uses agronomic and satellite data to give smallholder farmers land intelligence at the plot level. The business is utilising data and AI to improve the accessibility and precision of agricultural decision-making as part of the programme's sustainable agriculture track. In order to help small farmers obtain carbon credits, Varaha Climate uses AI and remote sensing to verify regenerative agriculture and carbon reduction.

Its efforts contribute to the programme's goal of increasing the reach of climate and carbon solutions. By the same token, Farmers for Forests is transforming smallholder agroforestry into a large-scale, quantifiable impact on biodiversity and carbon emissions through the use of drones powered by artificial intelligence. On the other hand, Climitra Carbon is using Geo-AI to make sure that invasive species have been removed and turned into biochar. Therefore, integrating carbon solutions that may be scaled up with restoring land.

Google Promoting Clean Solutions in India

Google unveiled four additional programmes to hasten the country's shift to clean energy, in addition to its support for the local ecosystem of climate innovation startups. One of these is automating roof surveys and layouts by developing an AI-powered solar application programming interface (API) across 300 million rooftops in India. Additionally, ReNew Power and Google have a long-term deal for a utility solar power project in Rajasthan that would generate 150 megawatts.

The remaining projects include collaboration with Mitti Labs to reach out to smallholder rice farmers in Telangana. This partnership will encourage these farmers to use alternate wetting and drying methods to kill off the microorganisms that produce methane. The company is also inviting new ideas for research and innovations to be included on the Manthan platform at the centre. By partnering with these groups, Google is reiterating its commitment to climate innovation in India. This will help propel the country's leadership in artificial intelligence and technology toward more equitable and sustainable economic development.
