Microsoft Plans $10 Billion Investment in Japan to Boost AI Growth
On April 3, the tech giant Microsoft announced a 1.6 trillion yen ($10 billion) investment over the next four years in Japan to support its expansion throughout Asia. The investment will help the corporation develop its AI infrastructure in the region where demand has been growing at an exponential rate. In a joint effort with Sakura Internet Inc. and telecommunications provider SoftBank Corp., Microsoft will build an AI and cloud infrastructure.
Microsoft announced that as a result of its investment in Japan, the software giant will have trained one million engineers and developers by the year 2030. How Microsoft Plans to Execute its Japan Expansion?
Sakura and SoftBank are among the Japanese companies that Microsoft will work with to increase the country's AI computing capability. These companies will supply the computer resources, including graphics processing units. In addition to obtaining access to Microsoft Azure services, Microsoft claims that its relationship with domestic enterprises will allow government agencies and businesses to store sensitive data and information within the country.
In order to better share information about cyber risks and how to prevent crimes, it will also strengthen cooperation with Japanese authorities. While meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, Microsoft President Brad Smith made the statement. Microsoft said in a statement that the initiative is in line with Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's objective to achieve national security while boosting growth through sophisticated, strategic technology. In an effort to overtake the United States and China, the IT giant from the United States is competing with Amazon and Alphabet, the parent company of Google, for supremacy in Japan. Japan is investing billions to build a strong AI ecosystem.
