Oppo Reno 5 Series Under India Probe Over Screen Quality Issues
India probes Oppo for alleged screen flaws in Reno 5 series phones after some consumers complained lines on the display. The DCA is investigating if the problems are a sign of a manufacturing fault and whether they could lead to repairs or reimbursement outside of warranty periods.
After receiving reports of screen issues, the Oppo Reno 5 series has been under investigation by India's top consumer protection body. The Department of Consumer Affairs has intervened after numerous consumers reported seeing lines on their phone screens. An influx of complaints to the National Consumer Helpline has prompted the investigation into possible issues with product quality during production.
There has been a regulatory crackdown on Chinese smartphone firms in India, and this probe is just one piece of the puzzle. The government is interested in knowing whether these issues are common and if they point to a manufacturing defect in the system, even though replacements have been supplied to certain users. The result can decide whether customers get paid or get free repairs after the guarantee expires.
Oppo Under Government’s Strict Scanner
As a private company, Oppo Mobiles India does not participate in stock trading on the Indian markets, which is something that market observers should keep in mind. Still, other major problems have put the corporation in the spotlight in recent years. The company's financial situation was called into question by auditors when they noted a negative net worth of INR 3,551 crore for the fiscal year 2024. The firm is also under investigation by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence on possible customs duty evasion of about INR 4,389 crore.
This comes at a time when Chinese smartphone makers are already facing increased scrutiny in India over compliance, FDI rules, and tax filings. How Oppo handles these customer complaints, and whether it results in broader regulatory rulings or establishes a precedent for how mobile manufacturers manage display defects after the warranty expires, will be the most important metric for the industry to track.
Amber Enterprises to Make Oppo, OnePlus and Realme Phones in India
Amber Enterprises is in the process of preparing to introduce smartphones to its production line. The electronics manufacturing services provider is targeting the first quarter of FY2027–28 to launch commercial smartphone production for Oppo, OnePlus, and Realme. Nonetheless, the trial production is anticipated to commence in the last quarter of FY2026-27.
The three smartphone brands' authorised manufacturer in India, Oppo Mobiles India, is the partner in this manufacturing cooperation. In its first year of operation, Amber anticipates producing 8 million smartphones. As the company grows, it aims to increase output to 15–16 million handsets in its second year.
The company's expansion into smartphone production is a big step forward for Amber, which now offers a wider range of consumer goods. It was in June that the business announced its collaboration with Oppo Mobiles India. The company is getting ready to launch the new business, according to Jasbir Singh, who is also the executive chairman, chief executive officer, and whole-time director of Amber. Additionally, the company's mobile segment now has a chief operational officer.
