Renault India Teams Up with IIT Kanpur for Next-Generation Vehicle Research
Renault India has entered into a partnership with IIT Kanpur to boost automotive R&D via advanced aerodynamic and wind-noise testing at the NWTF. The cooperation is focused on accelerating the engineering of next-generation vehicles by leveraging the research infrastructure of IIT Kanpur.
In an effort to boost India's capacity for automotive R&D, Renault India and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur have formed a strategic collaboration. In a statement, Renault India announced that they will be collaborating with IIT Kanpur's National Wind Tunnel Facility (NWTF) to evaluate their passenger vehicles' aerodynamics and wind noise at an advanced level. According to Vikraman V, Chief of Engineering at Renault Group India, this collaboration is a major development that will help Renault's engineering capabilities in India.
Specifics of IIT Kanpur and Renault Partnership
Commercial involvement, intellectual property management, and confidentiality are all thoroughly outlined in the MoU that was signed to facilitate the collaboration. According to the statement, this will guarantee an open and advantageous collaboration between Renault India and IIT Kanpur. According to Vikraman V, the alliance is facilitating the development of future-ready cars by combining world-class research infrastructure with Renault's worldwide engineering knowledge through collaboration with IIT Kanpur and the NWTF.
This collaboration exemplifies the adaptability of the NWTF, according to Alakesh Chandra Mandal, Department of Aerospace Engineering & Co-ordinator, NWTF, who commented on the partnership. Furthermore, it is a significant chance for IIT Kanpur to encourage innovation in the automotive sector by expanding its expertise beyond aerospace applications. Aerodynamic testing can be conducted at speeds between 80 and 280 km/h in the National Wind Tunnel Facility's continuous closed-jet test section, which measures 3.0 m x 2.25 m. The facility is undergoing upgrades to allow testing at speeds surpassing 400 km/h, according to IIT Kanpur.
