Baskar Subramanian was brought up in a middle-class family where computers were not a common commodity. According to an event recollection of his later life, his parents simply could not afford a computer, so he used most of his childhood to code on school lab machines. He went to Government College of Technology, Coimbatore, after high school, where he studied and got a bachelor's degree in Engineering (Computer Science). In 2008, Baskar Subramanian partnered with his college friends Srini and Srividhya to launch Amagi Media Labs. They set out to “democratize” television advertising by making TV ads targetable at a local or hyperlocal level.
